This creative project is a further development of my body of sculptural work in the Art Department at Central Washington University. The project consists of a large scale immersive and interactive installation artwork. The piece is part of a larger body of semi autobiographical work that aims to visually represent experiences associated with trauma, stress, and abuse experienced in childhood and the feelings of fear, helplessness, paranoia, and uncertainty that are associated with traumatic experiences. My goal for this work specifically was to create an environment that communicates the dichotomy between fear and hope that is essential to the types of coping mechanisms children utilize when faced with turmoil in the domestic sphere. The project itself, as well as the accompanying body of work, can be viewed as a part of my graduating exhibit Maladaptive Environments, between the dates of May 14th and 17th in Randal Hall’s Gallery 231.

A reception for Makayla's project is Tuesday, May 14th, 4 – 6pm in Randal Hall’s Gallery 231.
